NPP Postponement: A Conversation with Egyptian Football Expert, Hassan el-Masry
News Directery3: Hassan, thanks for joining us. The postponement of the NPP-Al Ahly match has certainly stirred up some conversation. What are your initial thoughts?
Hassan El-Masry: It’s certainly an unusual move, no doubt about it.
While NPP cites supporting Al Ahly’s participation in other tournaments, this postponement comes with its own set of complexities.
news Directery3: Can you elaborate on those complexities?
Hassan El-Masry: From a sporting viewpoint, postponing a match of this magnitude disrupts momentum and preparations for both teams.
For Al Ahly, they are coping with a heavy fixture list, but they are undoubtedly a club equipped to handle multiple competitions. Meanwhile, NPP’s decision, while presented as altruistic, could be perceived by some as a strategic maneuver.
News Directery3: What do you mean by “strategic maneuver”?
Hassan El-Masry: Let’s be honest, football is not just about sportsmanship. it’s also a business.
Postponing a high-profile match could benefit NPP in several ways.It buys them time to regroup and potentially assess Al Ahly’s form in their upcoming matches.
news Directery3: Do you think this ultimately benefits Egyptian football?
Hassan El-Masry: It’s a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it showcases a degree of unity and support between clubs.
Conversely,it raises questions about clarity and whether sporting considerations are being prioritized over other interests. Ultimately, the impact on Egyptian football’s integrity will depend on how future decisions of this nature are handled.
