Strategic Expansion into the Central U.S.

, particularly within technology and manufacturing sectors.
Addressing Geopolitical Economic Trends
During the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong addressed the impact of rising geopolitical tensions, which have led some nations to pursue onshoring, reshoring, and the development of self-sufficient supply chains.
But for economies like ours — open, connected, and trade-dependent — self-sufficiency is neither practical nor optimal.
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong
Gan warned that adopting insular economic policies would restrict Singapore’s access to global markets, limit growth opportunities, and reduce the nation’s ability to manage economic shocks. He argued that deepening links with trusted partners is essential for navigating current geopolitical fragmentation.
By working together, People can build capabilities that no single economy can develop alone, and allow our economies to remain competitive
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong
The establishment of the Austin centre is part of a broader effort to strengthen two-way trade, investment, and innovation partnerships between the United States and Singapore.
The launch occurred during a wider visit by Deputy Prime Minister Gan to the United States, which spanned from April 12 to April 17, 2026, and included scheduled meetings with U.S. Cabinet members.
