Eric Adams Sued: NYPD Corruption Allegations
NYPD Chiefs Sue Mayor Adams Alleging Rampant Corruption
New York City Mayor Eric Adams faces fresh allegations of corruption as four NYPD chiefs have filed lawsuits claiming “rampant, unchecked, perilous and costly corruption” within City Hall under his administration. The legal actions come as the mayor continues to navigate a complex political landscape, including the dismissal of previous federal charges against him.

The lawsuits, spearheaded by attorney Sarena Townsend, who represents the four chiefs, detail accusations of significant corruption. Townsend stated, “Even in his relatively short tenure at NYPD, Mr. Donlon recognized what my long-tenured clients complained of: rampant, unchecked, dangerous and costly corruption run by Mayor Adams and his cronies.” She further lauded Mr. Donlon for coming forward, asserting that his testimony “will surely lead to vindication for him, and many others who suffered as victims of Mayor Adams’ corruption.” These suits represent the latest in a series of corruption allegations leveled against the current administration.
Previous Charges Dismissed Amidst Political Scrutiny
This development follows the dismissal of federal corruption charges against Mayor Adams in April. The judge overseeing the case ruled that the charges could not be re-filed. Adams had been indicted on charges including bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals in exchange for political favors. He consistently maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all counts.
The dismissal of these charges, a move initiated by the Justice Department under the Trump administration after the charges had been pursued during the Biden administration, coincided with an intensified national focus on immigration enforcement. This timing lead to accusations from critics and political opponents that Adams had collaborated with the Trump administration on immigration removals in exchange for the dropping of his own legal troubles.
Mayor Adams has vehemently denied these claims, asserting that his administration’s cooperation with federal authorities was limited to criminal investigations, not civil enforcement matters.
