ML Lessons for Managers and Engineers
A Technical Walkthrough of Lesson One
Welcome to the second lesson in my series, ML Lessons for Managers and Engineers. In this lesson, I will guide you through implementing the solution I discussed in lesson one.
This lesson is more technical than I initially planned; however, understanding machine learning technology is beneficial for professionals.
I will focus mainly on the reasoning behind the techniques. This is where the valuable lessons lie. If you wish to study the code in detail, there is a GitHub link at the end of the page.
In lesson one, I explained that machine learning is a valid solution for simple problems, even when conventional methods can also solve them. Machine learning can be the most straightforward and easy-to-maintain option. This contradicts the belief that it is only useful when other methods fail.
To prove this point, I presented a use case where I aimed to detect rail heads in track imagery. Most engineers are used to applying traditional methods for this task. However, I believe machine learning can provide an efficient solution.
By implementing machine learning, we can simplify the process and create a system that is reliable and easy to manage. This lesson will guide you through that implementation, highlighting how machine learning can improve solutions across various tasks.
