The cancellation of Étoile comes shortly after its debut. While Prime Video will support the show’s awards consideration, the previously greenlit second season is now off the table. The decision reportedly stems from budgetary considerations, weighing the show’s cost against its performance.
The Star series, which explores the intertwined worlds of two ballet companies—one in New York city, the other in Paris—featured a cast including Luke Kirby, charlotte Gainsbourg, and lou de Laâge. The storyline centered on an exchange program designed to boost interest in ballet, orchestrated by executives Jack (Luke Kirby) and Geneva (Charlotte Gainsbourg).
The first season concluded with Jack offering a job to Cheyenne (Lou de Laâge), bypassing Geneviève, and a kiss between Jack and Cheyenne, leaving several plot threads unresolved. Other actors expected to return for a second season included Yanic Truesdale, Gideon Glick, David Alvarez, Ivan du Pontavice, Taïs Vinolo, David Haig, and Simon Callow.
The shift in leadership at Amazon MGM Studios, with Jennifer Salke no longer at the helm, likely influenced the decision.Étoile also did not achieve the same level of success as the Palladinos’ previous hit, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
