EU to Impose Sanctions on Russian Agents for Hybrid Attacks
Brussels, Belgium – The European Union is set to impose sanctions on Russian intelligence agents accused of carrying out hybrid attacks within the bloc, diplomats revealed on Friday. EU foreign ministers will finalize the sanctions during a meeting on Monday.
The EU and NATO have accused Moscow of orchestrating these so-called hybrid attacks,which include acts of sabotage,arson,and even assassination attempts. These actions are seen as attempts to destabilize Western nations and deter continued support for Ukraine in its war against russia.
According to diplomatic sources, the sanctions target approximately sixteen individuals and three entities. The penalties will include asset freezes within the EU and travel bans preventing these individuals from entering the bloc.
European officials also accuse Moscow of engaging in cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns, particularly during EU elections. Romania, such as, postponed the first round of its presidential elections due to suspicions of Russian interference and election manipulation.
In addition to the sanctions against Russian agents, EU ministers will formally adopt a fifteenth package of sanctions against Russia during Monday’s meeting. This package specifically targets Russia’s fleet of “shadow tankers,” vessels used to circumvent Western sanctions on Russian oil sales.
