LOS ANGELES (AP) — EVCS,a major electric vehicle fast-charging network on the West coast,has completed a critically important expansion of its infrastructure across Washington state. The project, executed in partnership with Forth and Energy Northwest, was facilitated by the Washington State Department of TransportationS (WSDOT) Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Partnerships (ZEVIP) program.
Expanded Charging Access Across Washington
Over the past year, EVCS has installed 41 DC fast chargers at 12 existing and 12 new locations, substantially increasing public EV charging availability for drivers in Washington. This deployment marks EVCS’s first use of ultra-fast charging technology in the state, featuring 38 DC fast chargers rated at 150kW and 175kW, along with three 350kW chargers capable of substantially reducing charging times.
Strategic Placement for Ferry Commuters
Ten of the 12 new locations are in cities previously without EVCS service, expanding access for residents, tourists, and commuters.Six of these sites—Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, Gig Harbor, Port orchard, Kingston, and Port Townsend—are part of Forth’s “West Sound Ferry Access Cluster,” strategically positioned west of Seattle to serve ferry commuters. Each site in this cluster provides 600kW or more of total fast-charging capacity.
