BNP Leader and Former Municipal Mayor Issued Show Cause Notice

BNP leader and former municipal mayor Saidur Rahman Montu has been issued a show cause notice by the district BNP‍ on charges of wanton extortion, encroachment of shops, and violation of party discipline in Durgapur,‌ Rajshahi.

Rajshahi District BNP Member Secretary Professor Biswanath Sarkar informed about the notice in a statement signed yesterday evening. The notice stated that the district BNP received a complaint from the Durgapur municipality BNP committee against former mayor Saidur ​Rahman Montur ‍on August 31.

According to the complaint, under the umbrella of former mayor Saidur Rahman Montur, some youths are ‌involved in various crimes, including extortion and shoplifting in Durgapur ‍town and upazila. As this organized activity is against the discipline and constitution of the party, Montu has ⁤been asked to inform in writing within seven days of receiving⁢ this notice.

When Saidur Rahman Montu was called on his mobile phone, it was found that his mobile number was switched off. Rajshahi district BNP member secretary Prof. Biswanath Sarkar said that if the allegations against Montu were proved, the district committee‌ leaders will sit and take organizational measures.
