At a cafe in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do, an event was held to provide free coffee to those who were not vaccinated against COVID-19.

On the 21st, Mr. A, the owner of a franchise cafe, put a notice on the glass door in front of the store: ‘Free coffee for non-vaccinated people’. The notice stated that the campaign was conducted independently of the headquarters.

In the notice, Mr. A said, “Those who are not vaccinated are not carriers of the virus.” wrote In addition, Article 10 and Article 12 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea were specified and hashtags such as ‘opposition to quarantine pass’ and ‘unconstitutional policy’ were added.

As the news spread through the online community, there was a lot of debate. One netizen left a supportive message saying, “He’s a wonderful boss. Let’s go get some money.” On the other hand, other netizens wrote opposing opinions, such as “Then what if a confirmed case of Corona 19 comes out?”

It is known that some netizens protested against the headquarters. In the end, Mr. A said through SNS (social networking service) that he was contacted by the head office and issued the relevant notice.

On SNS, Mr. A said, “There were people who said they support me over the phone, and there were people who only received my heart, but there were people who told me to do the good things that the boss wants with the money because I will deposit it. I was proud and thankful.”

He continued, “However, I received a call saying that a complaint had been made to the headquarters despite the caption saying it had nothing to do with the headquarters. If it is, no matter how good the intentions are, the good intentions cannot have bad results, so in the end, I agreed and said I would take down the post.”

He continued, “Once we begin to provide free (coffee) to those who are discriminated against, we will continue to provide free (coffee) to those who are discriminated against.” He added.

Meanwhile, in accordance with the government’s measures to strengthen social distancing that took effect on the 18th, the business hours of restaurants and cafes have been shortened to 9pm until January 2nd next year. Private gatherings are limited to a maximum of 4 people nationwide. In restaurants and cafes, only one person who is not vaccinated is allowed to use the vaccine.

However, as restaurants and cafes refusing even single use by those who have not been vaccinated, controversy arose over discrimination against those who were not vaccinated. Then, online accounts and cafes sharing a list of companies that deny access to unvaccinated people appeared.
