Exclusive Revelation Looms: Final Fantasy XVI Xbox Rumors Intensify as TGS 2024 Draws Near
Final Fantasy XVI and Pixel Remastered May Be Coming to Xbox
As the Tokyo Game Show 2024 approaches, rumors are circulating about a potential Final Fantasy XVI Xbox announcement. Game producer Naoki Yoshida has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Microsoft’s platforms following the launch of Final Fantasy XIV.
Two insiders have come forward, claiming that Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy Pixel Remastered will soon be available on Xbox. The first to make this claim was a leaker formerly known as Midori, now identified as ‘Ryan from the Bronx’. This was followed by Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who stated on the latest episode of his Xbox Two podcast:
Let me just say right now, if you were expecting Final Fantasy VII to be announced at Tokyo Game Show, don’t expect it this time. But I think we’ll see Final Fantasy. I don’t know exactly what it is, but we’ll see Final Fantasy, which would imply a broader partnership. If we’re lucky, we might even see it on Game Pass.
While a Final Fantasy VII Remake Xbox port may be challenging due to Square Enix’s exclusivity deal with Sony, Final Fantasy XVI is likely to be announced for Microsoft’s console soon after its PC release. However, as Digital Foundry’s analysis notes, FFXVI will be taxing not only the PlayStation 5 hardware but also powerful PCs, so it’ll be interesting to see how the game performs on the Xbox Series S.
In the case of Final Fantasy Pixel Remastered, it’s unlikely there was an actual exclusivity deal, and the Xbox port was simply a matter of when Square Enix was willing to devote the necessary resources.
The announcement is expected to be made during Microsoft’s Xbox TGS 2024 broadcast scheduled for Thursday, September 26.
