“Children are so worried about themselves that they think they are the most important thing in the universe. …But the universe is infinitely large and has no interest in us weak human beings with our trivial and silly problems. “It doesn’t really matter to us.”

Ten-year-old William complains to his outspoken aunt, Gunbor, for not playing with him, and then gets scolded for it. William, who grew up getting the treatment he deserved as a child, is embarrassed. “Does this mean I’m nothing?” My aunt and grandmother shake their heads. Of course, every human life is important, but whether children or adults, we often forget that humans are insignificant beings living on a small planet in an infinitely large universe. Humans are often so self-centered.

By Gertrude Kiel <별을 읽는 시간>This is an “old story about space science” that a grandmother tells her grandson. Gunbor is a physicist. He is always worried about something with his messy hair tied randomly. I make coffee every morning with a coffee maker that I built according to the laws of thermodynamics, and even when my nephew comes home, I rarely say anything other than necessary. The conversation that began by chance, “Human beings are egocentric,” continued with the story of the times when people thought that “the earth is the center of the universe.”

Gunbor includes Copernicus, who began to imagine that the Earth might not be the center of the universe, Tycho Brahe, the astronomer who began precise observations of celestial bodies, Kepler, who discovered that the orbits of the planets are elliptical, Galileo and Newton, who I am famous for saying, “The Earth keeps rotating.” The stories of 10 great scientists, including Einstein, are told over time. After reading the book, you can vaguely understand the history of science from heliocentric theory to relativity theory.
