Explosive Discovery: Vehicle Linked to Army Installation Attacks Uncovered
The operation ended with the deactivation of 21 explosive devices intended to be used in this attack against the Military Canton in Popayán.
Around 9:06 minutes on Saturday night, November 2, 2024, loud explosions were heard, which immediately recalled the tatucos that the guerilla launched the previous June against the National Police. This time the explosive charges were against the installations of the National Army, in the north of the city, in a residential area, which had frightened the residents.
However, no damage was reported. The uniformed officers, who were alerted by the sound of the explosions, acted quickly and through the information of citizens managed to find a pole truck, which contained a mechanism used to launch explosive devices.
The operation, supported by the CTI and the explosives unit of the National Police, led to the deactivation of 21 explosive devices intended to be used in that attack. After thorough verification by anti-explosive personnel, it was confirmed that there was no damage to the facilities, as the devices had fallen in a fenced area.
In addition, a group of experts from the Department of Criminal Investigations (SIJIN) was available, in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office, which reviews the security camera recordings of the sector to identify the material authors of this shameful fact.
The Mayor’s Office in Popayán and the Government of Cauca received a reward of up to $100,000,000 for information leading to the identification and capture of those responsible for this terrorist attack.
