September 11, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

Protect Yourself from Scammers Posing as Lumitel Technicians

Scammers are increasingly targeting Lumitel customers, attempting to steal money from ⁤their⁢ Lumicash accounts. These ⁤thieves pose as technicians, using various tactics to gain their victims’ trust.

How the Scam Works

Scammers will often contact their victims via WhatsApp, claiming to⁣ be from Lumitel and stating that they need to investigate a connection issue. They may ask for codes to be⁤ sent, supposedly to update the system. However, these codes can be used to access the⁣ victim’s⁤ Lumicash account and steal their money.

A Victim’s Story

Belyse, a 24-year-old⁢ student, was targeted by these scammers. She ‌received a⁢ call from a person claiming to ⁢be ‍a Lumitel technician, who asked her to ‌send codes to update ⁤the system. Fortunately, she became suspicious and asked her friends, who informed her that it ⁢was a scam.

Another victim, ⁤Antoine, ⁣also received a call from a scammer posing as a Lumitel technician. However, he was not fooled and reported the incident to ‍his contacts, warning them about the scam.

Precautions ⁤to Take

According to Bernard, a ⁣customer service representative‍ at Lumitel, the following‌ precautions can be taken to avoid falling victim to these scams:

  • Be ⁤cautious when receiving calls from unknown numbers.
  • Never enter Lumicash codes or confirmation codes ⁣for ⁤WhatsApp.
  • Do⁤ not provide personal data to unknown individuals.
  • Use two-step verification to secure your WhatsApp account.
  • If you lose your SIM card, report ⁢it⁢ to the police or block it at Lumitel to prevent it from being used for malicious activities.

What ⁣to Do If You’re a Victim

If you suspect that you have been targeted by these scammers, report the incident to⁢ Lumitel’s customer service immediately. You can also visit a⁤ Lumitel agency for assistance.

Remember, Lumitel technicians will never ask for personal data or codes over the phone. If⁢ you’re ⁣unsure about the authenticity of a call, hang ‌up and contact ⁣Lumitel’s customer service directly.
