What is Presbyopia and Why Does it Happen?
As people age, the lens of the eye gradually loses it’s flexibility, making it difficult to focus on nearby objects. This condition,known as presbyopia, typically begins around age 40 and affects nearly everyone. It’s a natural part of aging, not a disease, and is distinct from other vision problems like nearsightedness or farsightedness.
Currently, the most common correction for presbyopia is reading glasses, bifocals, or progressive lenses. However, these require adjustment and can be inconvenient. Surgical options also exist, but they carry risks and are not suitable for everyone.
How Do These Eye Drops Work?
The eye drops tested in the study combine two active ingredients: pilocarpine and diclofenac. Pilocarpine constricts the pupil and contracts the muscle responsible for focusing on near objects,effectively mimicking the eye’s natural focusing ability.
