F1 2024 pre-season testing: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen leads the pack.

F1 2024 pre-season testing begins on Wednesday 21 February at the Bahrain International Circuit. In the afternoon session, Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) further separated himself from the group in his new RB20. In the afternoon session, the sun set and the lights came on, and the temperature at the circuit, which will host the 2024 F1 World Championship, dropped to 24 degrees and the track temperature to 37 degrees.

After the morning 4-hour session, the second half of the 4-hour session began with a one-hour gap in the middle, with all drivers except Red Bull and Mercedes changing drivers. Ten cars, one for each team, ran the race. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen set the fastest time in the afternoon session. Verstappen led throughout the day, completing 143 laps. He ended the first day with a huge lead of 1.140 seconds over his successor. Each team is implementing a program that focuses on areas to improve with their 2024 F1 cars, and the tires are different, so it may not make much sense to dig deeper into the timing, but this season’s development is day one explained in a worrying way. Last year, Red Bull showed overwhelming strength, winning 21 of 22 races. This season, Red Bull introduced the RB20, featuring subtle horizontal and vertical side intakes, brutally sculpted sides and high shoulders, while the rivals who had achieved similar times in the second half of last season have switched to the RB19 concept. evolved more than any other team. It was the first day in which the champion Red Bull, just like last year, managed to impose himself. Runner-up Lando Norris briefly topped the leaderboard, but Verstappen immediately beat that time by around 0.8 seconds, making engineer Giampiero Lampiase laugh bitterly. From day one he showed consistent speed even in long runs. Second place and those below are rivals. Lando Norris (McLaren) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), who fought for the podium last year, finished 2nd and 3rd with a difference of 0.1 seconds. Both teams have new cars that can be described as normal evolutions from last year’s, and they don’t appear to have made any mistakes that would have slowed them down. New Visa Cash Up RB Daniel Ricciardo came in 4th place. He was closing on the third-placed Ferrari by 0.015 seconds and in his VCARB 01, which had been transplanted from last year’s Red Bull rear, he showed glimpses of his potential to break out of the middle of the pack and challenge for the podium. Pierre Gasly (Alpine) finished 5th and Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) was 6th, two cars that battled for points last year. In the afternoon, 7th place was Guanyu Chou (Sauber), 8th place was Logan Sargent (Williams), 9th place was George Russell (Mercedes), and 10th place was Nico Hulkenberg. Williams lost 21 laps and time in crucial pre-season testing due to a driveshaft problem. I have the impression that Mercedes collects data through long runs, which can be considered traditional, during testing. It’s not that he’s running badly and it will be interesting to see how fast he can get in his performances from tomorrow onwards. The Haas F1 Team probably also did not perform at all, with both drivers finishing at the bottom of the standings. Tomorrow, the 22nd (Thursday), the second day of testing will take place and, like the first day, there will be four-hour sessions in the morning and afternoon. 2024 F1 Preseason Test Day 1 (Afternoon) Results/Times Ranking Driver No. Team Time GAPLAPS 11 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1 minute 31 seconds 344 143 24 Lando Norris McLaren 1 minute 32 seconds 4841.14073 355 Carlos Sainz Ferrari 1 minute 32 seconds 5841.24069 43 Daniel Ricciardo RB 1 minute 32 seconds 5991.25552 510 Pierre Gasly Alpine 1 minute 32 seconds 8051.46160 618 Lance Stroll Aston Martin 1 minute 33 seconds 0071.66354 716 Charles Leclerc Ferrari 1 minute 33 seconds 2471.90364 814 Fernando Alonso aston martin 1 minute 33 seconds 3852.04177 981 Oscar Piastrim McLaren 1 minute 33 seconds 6582.31457 1024 Yu Sauber 1 minute 33 seconds 8712.52762 112 Logan Sargent Williams 1 minute 33 seconds 8822.53821 1263 George Russell Mercedes 1 minute 34 seconds 1092.765121 1322 Yutaka Tsunoda Tsuyoshi RB 1 minute 34 seconds 1362 .79264 1477 Valtteri Bottas Sauber 1’34.4313. 08768 1523 Alexander Albon Williams 1’34.5873.24340 1631 Esteban Ocon Alpine 1’34.6773.33360 1720 Kevin Magnussenhaas 1’35.6924.34866 18 27 Nico Hulkenberg Haas 1 min 35 seconds 9064.56282 1944 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 20 11 Sergio Perez Red Bull
