“Chile is very Americanized in certain ways, and we look up [to] the US,” Copano said. He added that the culture shock came when he realized that Chile was ahead of the U.S. in many ways as they had already lived through many of the traumas that the U.S. is just now confronting.
This realization allowed Copano to view Americans with more empathy.
