The Togolese head of state Faure Gnassingbé reaffirmed on Sunday his determination to strengthen the security and resilience of the populations of the Savanes.

“If Mandouri is not at peace, Togo is not at peace, if Cinkassé is not at peace, Togo is not at peace. We will do everything to protect you,” reassured the Togolese head of state during a meeting on Sunday in Cinkassé and Mandouri, with the active forces of the prefecture of Cinkassé and Grand Kpendjal (Savanes region).

The Savanes region (far north of Togo) is a locality prey to terrorist attacks since November 2021.

The active forces of these two localities first presented, through their spokespersons, their wishes for health, happiness and peace to the Head of State.

At the same time, they showed him their gratitude for his policy of development and protection of the citizens of the region, marked in particular by the establishment of the Emergency Program for the Savanes region (PURS), the Koundjouaré operation as well as as many achievements in the sectors of agriculture, health, education, energy and social cohesion.

The region’s active forces seized the opportunity to renew their total support for the Head of State’s policy of peace, major works and active diplomacy.

In response, President Faure Gnassingbé first congratulated the region’s active forces for their remarkable mobilization and the warm welcome given to him.

He then presented his compassion to the entire population of the Savanes region who were victims of terrorist acts.

In this regard, he reaffirmed his determination to ensure the protection of all citizens of the region, particularly those in the prefectures of Cinkassé, Kpendjal and Kpendjal-Ouest who are facing terrorist attacks.

“Don’t rest on your laurels. Continue to be vigilant, continue to help the Defense and Security Forces as well as the administrative and political authorities, because it is together that we will preserve peace and security in the Savanes,” advised the head of the ‘State.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the resilience of populations through the pursuit of projects with strong economic and social impact.

“Whether in the areas of rural roads, health, education, agriculture, infrastructure and many others, efforts will continue to accelerate the implementation of socio-economic projects and programs. These mechanisms will help preserve security and fight against terrorism,” said Faure Gnassingbé.
