Fairphone 6: Modular design, Repairability Focus Continues
Updated June 25, 2025
Fairphone has announced the Fairphone 6, its newest repairable smartphone, almost two years after its previous upgrade. The Fairphone 6 is designed to be smaller and more modular than earlier models.

The Fairphone 6 features a similar physical design to its predecessor, but the camera lenses now sit directly on the back panel rather of on a raised bump. The back panel is more modular, with the lower section removable via two screws. This allows users to attach accessories such as wallets or finger loops. The concept resembles Nothing’s swappable accessories for its CMF Phone 1 and phone Pro 2, but its usefulness hinges on the availability of Fairphone accessories.
Repairability remains a key focus for Fairphone. The Fairphone 6 maintains the modular design of previous versions, allowing access and replacement of 12 different components, including the screen, battery, and USB port, using a standard screwdriver.
To extend the phone’s lifespan, Fairphone provides a five-year warranty and promises eight years of software support through 2033. However, the design results in a limited IP55 rating for dust and water resistance. The phone can withstand splashes and jets of water but not submersion.
Along with performance improvements and modular accessories, Fairphone is introducing Fairphone Moments, a software feature activated by a physical switch. This feature allows users to switch between a full-featured smartphone experiance and a minimalist one.
The company describes Fairphone Moments as “a mindful way to engage with technology, putting owners in control, not their notifications,” suggesting it will reduce distractions to enhance focus.
