Fake News Fallout: Chan-Dae Park Blasts President’s Office, Demands Special Prosecutor

Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, claimed that “the President’s office is the epicenter of fake news” and pressed, “Accepting special prosecutor Kim Kun-hee is the only solution to quell public anger.”

At a meeting of the Democratic Party’s Supreme Council held on October 28, floor leader Park responded to the President’s Office’s explanation that the claim that First Lady Kim Kun-hee earned 2.3 billion won in market profits by manipulating the stock price of Deutsche Motors was not true, saying, “The President’s Office is the epicenter of fake news,” and “Shameless. “Please apologize for your lies.”

“An official from the President’s Office told reporters that the 2.3 billion won figure is nothing more than an opinion submitted by the prosecution investigation team to the first trial court during the Moon Jae-in administration in 2022,” he said. “The prosecution submitted the opinion to the court in December 2022. “It had been seven months since President Yoon took office,” he said.

He continued, “President Yoon says that the constantly produced fake news is a threat to liberal democracy, and the President’s Office is constantly producing fake news, so isn’t the government in a mess?” He added, “The President’s Office is a liberal democracy that even blatantly lies to make Ms. Kim bulletproof.” “It is the epicenter of lies that threaten people.”

He also urged, “The President’s Office should immediately apologize to the people for the lies that treated them like idiots.”

Floor Leader Park asserted, “The issue of Ms. Kim has emerged as the number one reason for (President Yoon)’s negative evaluation,” and added, “This means that public anger over the government’s manipulation of state affairs is spreading rapidly.”

At the same time, he repeatedly pressed, “The only solution to quell the public’s anger is for the president and his wife to tell the people the truth and accept special prosecutor Kim Kun-hee.”
