Thiruvananthapuram: The government will hold discussions with the owners today before opening the theater. The discussion will take place online at 11am. Theater Uma will demand exemption from entertainment tax and reduction of fixed deposit in KSEB at the time of payment. Theaters will be open in the state from Monday. The decision was made to admit 50 per cent of the audience and the agreement was to open all the theaters, including the multiplex.

However, to the disappointment of the fans who were waiting for the opening of the theater, reports came out that the Mohanlal-Priyadarshan duo’s Marakkar Arabikautal’s Lion ODT would be released. The release of the film, which was originally slated to hit theaters worldwide in five languages, including Malayalam, on March 26, 2020, had to be postponed several times due to the Kovid situation.

Producer Antony Perumbavoor had said three weeks ago that ‘Marakkar’, the most expensive movie in Malayalam, will not hit theaters soon. That was after the government decided to open the theater. He said at the time that the decision was made because 50 per cent of admissions would be lost.

However, director Priyadarshan said that he was not aware of reports that ‘Marakkar’ might be a direct OT release. “No such report has been received so far. It is up to the producer or Mohanlal to confirm this report,” Priyadarshan told OTT Play.
