In connection with an accident in which three people died from electrocution at a public bathhouse, police collected motors and electrical equipment connected to the hot tub facility and began a detailed analysis.

On the 26th, the Sejong Police Agency, together with the National Institute of Forensic Science and the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, conducted a second joint inspection for about four hours starting at 10:30 am. During the in-depth investigation, the forensic team collected some motors and electrical equipment in the machine room on the first basement floor of the bathhouse building.

Considering that it was very likely that a defect in the electrical equipment connected to the engine caused the short circuit, the National Forensic Service was commissioned to carry out an in-depth analysis. This engine is known to be connected to an underwater massage machine that generates bubbles in the hot tub where the accident occurred.

That day, the joint identification team dismantled part of the bathroom and checked for signs of water leaks and short circuits and whether the circuit breakers were working normally. However, it was reported that nothing special was found in the sauna or the electrical distribution box.

A police official said: “We believe there is a high possibility that electrical equipment around the engine has been short-circuited and we intend to conduct a detailed analysis of the relevant equipment.” He added: “We will find the cause of the accident based on the details of the forensic examination and the results of the analysis of the National Forensic Service.”

Previously, at around 5:37 am on the 24th, three bathers in their seventies who were in the hot tub of a women’s bathhouse in Jochiwon-eup, Sejong City, were electrocuted and taken to hospital, but they all died.

The building where the accident occurred consists of a basement and three floors above ground and was authorized for use in December 1984. The first basement floor was used as a women’s bathhouse (173㎡) and boiler room (99㎡), the first floor above ground was used as a counter and men’s bathhouse, and the second and third floors were used as a motel bathroom.

There was a safety inspection by the Electrical Safety Corporation for this bathhouse last June, but it was reported that no major problems were found.
