Fauci: “It’s not time for US to declare victory over COVID-19”

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 20th (local time) that Fauci had mentioned the possibility of a resurgence of COVID-19 in the United States. As the number of confirmed cases, hospitalizations, and deaths began to decline, the United States has been loosening regulations related to quarantine, such as lifting the mandatory wearing of masks.

Dr. Fauci appeared on ABC’s ‘This Week’ on the same day and said, “This is not the time to declare victory. The COVID-19 virus has deceived us before, so we need to be prepared for the possibility of another mutation.” This is in consideration of the possibility of propagation of the so-called ‘stealth omicron’, ‘BA.

Other epidemiologists are also analyzing the recent decline in the number of confirmed cases in the United States as similar to the situation before the re-proliferation in Europe, the New York Times reported.
