Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé attended the inauguration of the largest single-train refinery in the world in Nigeria. Dangote Oil Refinery is an imposing oil infrastructure built in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, the economic capital of Nigeria.

This May 22, 2023, took place the inaugural ceremony of this jewel installed on an area of ​​2635 hectares. Its processing capacity, 650,000 barrels/day. Dangote Oil Refinery will produce gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and many other refined petroleum products. Were present at the ceremony five presidents, namely Faure Gnassingbé from Togo, Nana Akufo-Addo from Ghana; Macky Sall from Senegal, Mohamed Bazoum from the Republic of Niger and Mahamat Déby from Chad. Rwandan President Paul Kagame will send a message of goodwill virtually. President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu is also expected.

It is a vast complex which includes a fertilizer plant with a capacity of 3 million tons per year. It should, at full capacity, have the largest crude refining capacity on the African continent, meet all the needs of Nigerians and have reserves for export.

This ambitious integrated refinery and petrochemical project in Nigeria is an expression of the private sector’s contribution to meeting the energy and industrial challenges of the sub-region and the African continent.

The presence of the Head of State and his counterparts from the sub-region at this ceremony reflects their desire to support all the initiatives that contribute to the development of the continent with the key, economic integration within the framework of the Zone. African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
