The scheme involved text messages and phone calls to Wiles’ contacts. Sources indicate Wiles’ personal cellphone was hacked,not her government-issued device. The impersonator reportedly sought a list of individuals President Trump could pardon.
Some individuals initially believed the messages were from Wiles. However, suspicions arose when the impersonator requested a cash transfer and exhibited grammatical errors inconsistent with Wiles’ typical communication style. The requests also originated from an unfamiliar phone number.
