LA Deputy Mayor’s Home Searched in FBI Bomb Threat Investigation
Los Angeles, CA – The FBI conducted a search of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian Williams’ home on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into a bomb threat made against City Hall earlier this year.
Williams, who serves as Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, was identified as the “likely” source of the threat by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
“Earlier this year the LAPD responded to a bomb threat made against Los Angeles City Hall,” the department said in a statement. “Our initial investigation revealed that the source of the threat was likely from Brian Williams…Due to the Department’s working relationship with Mr. Williams, the investigation was referred to the FBI. The FBI remains the investigating agency.”
mayor Karen bass’ spokesperson, Zach Seidl, confirmed the FBI search and Williams’ subsequent placement on administrative leave.
“The Mayor takes this matter very seriously,” Seidl said. “When the threat was reported, LAPD investigated and determined there was no immediate danger. Following additional investigation,LAPD referred this matter to the FBI for further investigation.”
Attempts to reach Williams for comment were unsuccessful.The FBI declined to comment, citing a policy of neither confirming nor denying ongoing investigations.Williams has served as Deputy Mayor in Bass’ office for nearly two years, focusing on critical issues such as police hiring, public safety spending, and the search for a new police chief. His extensive career in public service spans over three decades, including roles as Deputy Mayor under Mayor James K. Hahn and Assistant City Attorney for Los Angeles.
From 2016 to 2023,Williams served as the Executive Director of Los Angeles County’s Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission. In his current role, he oversees the Police Department, Fire Department, port police, airport police, and the city’s emergency management agency.
