FEFCA and Producers Guild Join Forces to Address False Information and Defamation in Film Reviews

FEFCA Disagrees with Proposal for Ban on Film Reviews

Kochi: The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFCA) has expressed its disagreement with the proposal to impose a ban or time limit on film reviews. However, the association acknowledges the need to address certain issues related to film reviews. These include body shaming, caste and race accusations, gender-based criticism, and the dissemination of false information about films and filmmakers.

In response to these concerns, FEFCA and the Producers Guild have jointly decided to form a committee that will provide legal aid to those affected by such incidents. The aim is to protect the reputation of films and the integrity of the filmmaking process.

In addition, the Producers Association has informed FEFCA about its plan to create a list of approved marketing agencies and online platforms for film promotion. It is also proposed that only the public relations officers (PROs) who are members of FEFCA should be involved in promotional activities. This decision comes as a response to recent instances of financial fraud in the online and digital marketing sector.

These decisions were made during a discussion between FEFCA leadership, representatives of member organizations, and officials of the Kerala Film Producers Association. The meeting, held on October 31 and November 1, addressed the evolving landscape of cinema marketing in the digital age. The discussion was attended by digital marketing coordinators and representatives from online platforms who do not belong to FEFCA.

The joint efforts of FEFCA and the Producers Guild reflect their commitment to ensuring a fair and ethical environment for film promotion and reviews. By addressing concerns related to defamatory practices and fraudulent marketing, the industry aims to uphold its integrity and protect the interests of filmmakers and audiences alike.
