Borussia Dortmund booked a place in the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 11 years.

Dortmund beat Atletico Madrid 4-2 in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, after losing the first leg by two goals to one.

Dortmund’s goals scored: Julian Brandt, Ian Masten, Niklas Volkrug and Marcel Sabitzer.

Meanwhile, Matt Hummels (own own goal) and Nakhil Correa scored the goals for Atletico Madrid.

Dortmund set a date with Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals after they faced each other in the group stage.

The German giant returned to appear in the semi-finals of the Champions League after missing it since the 2012-2013 season, when it lost to Bayern Munich in the final match.

Match description

Dortmund started the match and almost scored early after a strong shot from inside the penalty area by Sabitzer, but the goalkeeper successfully blocked it.

Dortmund scored the first goal after a pass from Hummels to Julian Brandt, who shot a ball from the left of the penalty area for Borussia Dortmund, and the ball went into the net in the 35th minute.

Dortmund increased its lead and scored the second goal after a pass from Sabitzer to Ian Masten, who shot a ball from the left of the penalty area into the net in the 43rd minute.

At the beginning of the second half, Atletico Madrid reduced the score after a reverse error from Matt Hummels, who accidentally scored into his own net in the 49th minute.

Atletico Madrid equalized after a cross ball from the right of the penalty area. Rodrigo Riquelme’s shot was blocked by the goalkeeper and bounced back to Angel Correa, who shot a ball that hit the defense and then shot it into the net in the 63rd minute.

Volkrug sent a perfect header that beat Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the 71st minute.

Sabitzer scored the fourth goal after a powerful shot from outside the penalty area went past the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper in the 79th minute.

Jan Oblak blocked a new dangerous attempt and prevented Dortmunder’s fifth goal after a missile shot from Sabitzer.
