Film producer Fauzan Zidni has been elected chair of the Indonesian Film Agency (BPI) for a four-year term, with the government-backed body set to make its first international delegation appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026.

Zidni, who serves as a producer at Cinesurya and previously led original production at The Walt Disney Company Indonesia, announced the appointments of Nazira C. Noer as secretary general and Yulia Evina Bhara as head of international cooperation. All three officials are scheduled to attend the Cannes Film Festival as part of BPI’s inaugural international delegation.

Speaking following his unanimous election at the IV BPI Congress held in Jakarta from April 10–12, 2026, Zidni emphasized the agency’s mission to strengthen the domestic film ecosystem while expanding global access for Indonesian cinema. He highlighted plans to focus on strategic festival participation and international co-productions to build on recent market growth.

According to Zidni, local films accounted for 67% of Indonesia’s box office market share by 2025, marking one of the few post-pandemic recoveries in global cinema attendance. This momentum, he said, necessitates a coordinated effort to develop talent, improve infrastructure, and promote transparent governance across the industry.

Among BPI’s stated objectives under Zidni’s leadership are the revision of Indonesia’s Film Law in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, aimed at reinforcing institutional capacity, professionalizing industry roles, increasing government support, ensuring legal certainty for investors, and safeguarding freedom of expression. Additional priorities include launching a nationwide anti-piracy campaign, organizing the Indonesia Film Festival, and fulfilling the agency’s statutory functions as outlined in Law No. 33 of 2009 on Film.

Zidni also outlined a human capital development strategy involving curriculum synchronization, internship hubs, and the placement of emerging talent in leading international film schools and laboratories. He noted that these initiatives are intended to create a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals capable of competing in global markets.

The announcement was welcomed by Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, who described BPI as a vital bridge between government and the film industry. He expressed hope that the agency would further strengthen the national film ecosystem, promote ethical governance, and expand opportunities for creative talent throughout the archipelago.

Prior to his election as BPI chair, Zidni served as chairman of the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI) from 2016 to 2019 and has remained an advisory board member since 2019. With over 14 years of experience in film production and media leadership, his appointment signals a continuity of industry expertise at the helm of the state-backed agency.
