Lower Austria faced a significant emergency response on Monday as the fire brigade was called to approximately 140 missions following a severe storm. The district of Horn bore the brunt of the impact, with over 100 reported damages, primarily involving extensive flooding and the need for pumping operations.
Horn District Grapples with Over 100 Flood Incidents
The aftermath of a powerful storm left the district of Horn inundated, with the fire brigade working tirelessly to address the widespread damage.Klaus Stebal from the state command reported on Tuesday that the focus of the emergency response was heavily concentrated in this region. “Most of the helpers were busy pumping,” Stebal stated, highlighting the scale of the water-related issues.
Rescues and Road Clearances Amidst the Deluge
in a testament to the severity of the situation, eight individuals were successfully rescued from four vehicles submerged in water. Beyond the immediate flooding, the fire brigade also attended to 20 missions requiring the removal of fallen objects, a common hazard after intense weather events. One notable incident saw a tree blocking a street in Sitzenberg, located in the Tulln district, necessitating swift action to restore access.
Massive Rainfall triggers widespread Flooding in Horn
The town of Horn experienced notably severe flooding due to torrential rainfall.The local fire brigade,FF Brunn,reported on its website that massive amounts of rain,exceeding 100 liters per square meter within a single hour,led to numerous private homes and commercial properties being inundated.
Community Mobilization and Fire Brigade Efforts
The response to the crisis involved a significant mobilization of resources. In the Horn district alone, 40 fire departments deployed a total of 585 members, operating 79 vehicles. Despite the extensive damage and challenging conditions,thankfully,no injuries were reported during these operations.
