Fire in shopping mall in Karachi, 11 killed

More than 60 people were inside the mall when the fire broke out on the fourth floor of the six-storey building in the southern port city, reports said.

Shahid Hussain, spokesperson of the Chippa Kalyan organization involved in rescue services, said, ‘Our rescue workers have taken 11 bodies to the hospital so far.’

He added, ’35 people were injured, seven of them in critical condition’. “At least 40 people have been rescued,” said Shahid Hussain.

Provincial Health Ministry spokesman Shabbir Ali confirmed the death toll and the number of injured. Hussain said the fire started from a short circuit in the generator and spread to two floors of the building.
