Fitness Giant Dodges Financial Blow: Pure Fitness Kwun Tong Store Settles RMB 8.49 Million Rent Dispute in Dramatic U-Turn
Pure Fitness Branch in Manulife Plaza Embroiled in Rent Dispute
A lawsuit was filed against Pure Fitness’s branch in Manulife Plaza, Kwun Tong, over unpaid rent and miscellaneous fees.
The chain fitness center’s branch in Manulife Plaza, Kwun Tong, was accused of being in arrears with rent and other miscellaneous fees since May this year. The owner of the shop filed a lawsuit with the High Court to recover the 8.49 million yuan in debt and related losses from Pure Fitness.
Pure Fitness issued a statement stating that as part of the lease renegotiation, they have successfully resolved the issues with the landlord and reached an agreement. The related lawsuit has been withdrawn. All PURE Group fitness and yoga centers are operating normally and providing regular services.
Lease Agreement and Rent Details
The plaintiff and the defendant signed a six-year lease in September 2019 to rent the shop in Manulife Plaza to the defendant. The monthly rent for the first two years was approximately NT$1.26 million; the monthly rent for the third and fourth years was approximately NT$1.46 million; the monthly rent in the fifth and sixth years is about 1.65 million yuan. In addition, the defendant also needs to pay additional rent based on turnover.
Rent Arrears and Lawsuit
The defendant has been in arrears with rent and other miscellaneous fees since May this year, amounting to approximately 8.49 million yuan. The plaintiff therefore filed a lawsuit to recover the arrears and related losses, and requested the other party to surrender the shop.

Pure Fitness has resolved the issues with the landlord and reached an agreement, and the related lawsuit has been withdrawn. All PURE Group fitness and yoga centers are operating normally and providing regular services.
