Flydubai suspends all flights departing from Dubai due to bad weather

Flydubai announced the cancellation of all its flights scheduled to depart from Dubai this evening, April 16, immediately, until 10 am Dubai time, tomorrow, April 17.

A Flydubai spokesman said in an update on the impact of the weather conditions we are witnessing during this period… that travelers for whom Dubai is not a final destination will not be accepted for travel.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update our flight schedule accordingly,” the spokesperson said. “This will allow us to restore continuity of operations more efficiently and accommodate flights arriving from various destinations on the carrier’s network where possible.”

He explained that the full amount will be refunded to travelers who have canceled reservations.

He added, “Our customer service teams are working hard to minimize the effects of this on our passengers’ travel schedule. The safety of our passengers and crew is always our priority.”

Dubai Airports had announced that incoming flights to Dubai International Airport would be diverted this evening until weather conditions improve.

This comes after it was announced earlier today that operations at Dubai International Airport would be temporarily halted for 25 minutes due to a severe storm.

Today, Tuesday, the UAE emergency authorities canceled many scheduled flights from Dubai International Airport, and closed roads in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah, due to heavy rains in the country, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

According to the UAE National Meteorological Centre, these rains will continue until tomorrow, Wednesday, and the UAE security authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution and not leave their homes if it is not necessary.

In a statement, Dubai Airports called on travelers to check the status of their flights with airline companies.

In light of these weather fluctuations, government agencies and institutions and many institutions in the private sector have switched to working remotely, and classrooms in schools and universities will be switched from the in-person system to a remote system, if bad weather conditions continue.

Local authorities have been forced to restrict public transportation, but the metro operates intermittently. Dubai Police also called on drivers to stop driving during bad weather conditions.
