Foiled Assassination Attempt on Ukrainian President Zelensky by Russian Agents

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said it had thwarted a Russian assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

According to foreign media reports such as the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 7th (local time), the SBU said on this day, “We thwarted the attempt of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) to assassinate the president and leadership of Ukraine. ,” and added, “A high-ranking member of the Ministry of State Security of Ukraine who was in close contact with the Federation of Small Businesses “We arrested two officers,” he said.

The SBU explained that Russia had planned to attack the motorcade carrying President Zelenskyy and others with missiles and drones.

SBU Director Maliuk argued that this assassination operation could have been a gift from Russian President Vladimir Putin for his successful fifth term, and said that this assassination operation is an example of the failure of a special operation in Russia.

President Putin held his fifth inauguration ceremony at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, on the 7th. President Putin won the fifth presidential election last March, following the presidential elections in 2000, 2004, 2012, and 2018.

The Ukrainian authorities announced that there was an attempt to assassinate President Zelenskyy in August last year and that they had captured a Russian informant who was connected to it.

Last month, Polish authorities announced the arrest of a Polish-born Russian spy on suspicion of involvement in a plot to assassinate President Zelenskiy.
