Fontaines D.C. Show Support for Palestine at Primavera Sound
Updated June 8, 2025
Fontaines D.C., the Dublin-based band, used their platform at Primavera Sound 2025 in Barcelona to voice support for Palestine. During their June 7 set at Parc Del Forum, the band projected a giant palestinian flag and messages advocating for a “free Palestine.”
During the performance of “I Love you,” from their 2022 album ‘Skinty’s son,’ the phrase “free Palestine” appeared on screens flanking the stage. As the concert concluded with “Starburster” from 2024’s ‘Romance’, another message stated: “Israel is committing genocide – use your voice.” Frontman Grian Chatten also echoed these sentiments during the set, amplifying the band’s message of solidarity.
The band’s advocacy for Palestinian rights is not new. In the past, Fontaines D.C. launched a football shirt in collaboration with Dublin’s Bohemians FC to raise funds for Medical Aid For Palestinians. The shirt featured the Palestinian flag and the phrase “Saoirse don Phalaistín,” which translates to “Free Palestine” in Irish. Activist Greta Thunberg has been seen wearing the shirt.
Last summer, the band donated a $2,000 prize from a music quiz to Doctors Without Borders “for Palestine.” They also canceled a scheduled performance in Istanbul to show solidarity with Palestine, emphasizing the importance of standing by their convictions.
Chatten has previously spoken about the band’s commitment to using their platform to raise awareness. He stressed the responsibility of artists and individuals with a voice to take action and advocate for change.
Fontaines D.C. joins a growing number of musicians using their voices to support Palestine. IDLES recently dedicated their Primavera Sound set to the people of Gaza and the West Bank, leading the crowd in a “Viva Palestina!” chant. Sam Fender also delivered a pro-Palestine speech during a London stadium show.
Massive Attack also highlighted the issue at the LIDO Festival in london, where actor and activist Khalid Abdalla called for peace in the Middle East and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
As the conflict continues, Israel has denied allegations of genocide or war crimes.
