London: A man who hurled racist abuse at a star during a football match has been sentenced to nine months in prison in England. The striker of the English club, Forest Green Rovers, Jordan Garrick was taken to court for defamation. Garrick is of Jamaican descent and is currently an English citizen. Ryan Ferguson, 23, was sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court.
The sentencing judge asked how he felt about making such a colorful charge against a player as good as Jordan Garrick, who has been playing well up front. At a time when Varnavery was emerging as a major problem, the court considered it shameful behavior on Ferguson’s part.
Last April 18, during the game between Forest Green Rovers and Fleetwood Town, Varnavery ridiculed Ferguson Garrick. Things got to the point where teammates stopped the game and complained to the referee. The court sentenced him to prison yesterday in this incident.
