Former bank president and CPM leader N Bhasurangan has cited the need for additional time to produce requested documents and has failed to appear for questioning today in connection with the Kandala Cooperative Bank fraud case, as directed by the ED. This comes after Bhasurangan was questioned for a total of 18 hours on Monday and Wednesday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in relation to the ongoing investigation into the financial irregularities at Kandala Cooperative Bank.

The ED’s investigation has been focused on the financial transactions, bank deposits, and the interventions of Bhasurangan’s bank in the sanctioning of loans. Preliminary findings have revealed an irregularity of Rs 101 crore in the Kandala Bank, with indications that the extent of the irregularity may be even greater.

N Bhasurangan, who had been taken into custody after an attack on Kandala Bank and the homes of some of its employees, was subsequently hospitalized. Despite being directed to appear for questioning today, Bhasurangan has requested more time to produce property details and bank statements, which are being sought by the ED.
