Former Deputy Governor Lee Hwa-young Accuses Prosecutor’s Office of Creating False Official Documents

Lee Hwa-young, a former deputy governor of Gyeonggi Province, who claims he “suspected that he appeased the prosecutor’s office by drinking”, reported the accusation to the Corruption Investigation Bureau on charges of creating false official documents.

Lawyer Kim Gwang-min, legal representative of former vice governor Lee, said: “The Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office distributed false information regarding the fact that a former prosecutor-turned-lawyer met with the former deputy Governor Lee” and reported the people involved to the Corruption Investigation Office.

Previously, the Suwon District Attorney’s Office had refuted former Vice Governor Lee’s claim that he was “persuaded by the meeting with a former high-ranking prosecutor arranged by the prosecution” saying, “In November 2022, It was revealed that the lawyer met defendant Lee Hwa-young at Suwon Detention Center.” A statement was distributed to the media.

The prosecution explained that the investigating prosecutor did not arrange a meeting between former deputy governor Lee and lawyer Jeon Gwan, but rather confirmed that the lawyer had a personal relationship with defendant Lee Hwa in the past -young and met with the defendant at the request of the defendant and her family.

However, former Deputy Governor Lee’s side claimed that after checking the minutes of the meeting with the former lawyer, there were two more meetings on June 19 and 29, 2023, and that the opinion statement of the prosecutor’s office Suwon District Attorney’s Office, according to which they had met once, was a fake official document, and the author of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office statement, etc. Three people were named in the complaint.

Former vice governor Lee also reported that the Suwon Detention Center did not reveal the documents of former Ssangbangwool president Kim Seong-tae, vice president Bang Yong-cheol and president of the Peace Exchange Association Asia-Pacific An Busu.

The Suwon Detention Center is said to have refused to disclose information such as the deployment date of these three people, saying: “Please understand that it is difficult to provide information such as the release date of these three people in accordance with the provisions relevant”. of the Law on Disclosure of Information by Public Institutions.

In response to this, former Deputy Governor Lee pointed out: “The Suwon Detention Center has provided the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office with the attendance records of all four people” and added: “I would like to ask the the accusation on what basis it was presented.”
