Former F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg “IndyCar is a steering monster”[F1-Gate .com]

Former F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg made his first run on an IndyCar machine. The car is a “steering monster,” he said, “I need to go to the gym.”

Nico Hulkenberg tests the Arrow McLaren SP car at Barber Motorsports Park on Monday, October 25th. He ran 108 laps and recorded the best time of 77.454 seconds. It was a little over a second behind pacesetter David Marcus.

This is Nico Hulkenberg’s first run in IndyCar, and whether McLaren enjoys driving IndyCar’s car rather than the evaluation for signing Nico Hulkenberg for the future. It is said that the part of the test to confirm is large.

Nico Hulkenberg, who hasn’t raced in a single-seater since three times at Racing Point last year, is in a new environment because IndyCar is so different from the cars he’s been racing. He says it took a while to get used to it.

“It took me a whole morning,” Nico Hulkenberg told Racer.

“There are a few other things like aero screens and there isn’t much air coming in. I had problems in the morning and it was a bit tricky and physically difficult to get very satisfied with the car right away.”

“Then by lunch time, I felt a little better and I felt a little better adapted. By that time, lap times and performances were starting to come out.”

“I definitely need to go to the gym! I admit it’s a steering monster! It’s always different when I experience it myself, but the steering load is pretty impressive and very heavy.”

“The machine’s G force is still there. Of course it’s not as extreme as F1, but it still takes G and it’s a very physical machine combined with the steering load.”

“It’s been a year since I last rode a racing car, so first and foremost, it was great to be able to ride it again.”

“Obviously it’s quite different from an F1 car. The overall feel, experience, sound, seat position, etc. are all different.”

“That’s why I had to understand my mind, but I think it was a successful day from my point of view. I’m glad I got the opportunity here. It was a lot of fun.”
