There is speculation that former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar is set to take on the role of Chairman of the Indian Cricket Selection Committee. Following Chetan Sharma’s resignation in February due to a controversial sting operation, the position has been vacant. The spotlight has now turned to Mumbai Pacer, who is rumored to be the frontrunner for the prestigious role. It has been reported that Agarkar’s appointment will come with a salary increase, a lucrative incentive for the former cricketer.

Currently, the Chief Selector’s annual salary stands at Rs. , but according to sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has promised a raise. Motivated by this prospect, Agarkar has put forward his application for the position of Chairman. The other members of the selection committee receive a salary of Rs 90 lakh per annum.

Agarkar, who previously held the position of co-coach at Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), recently resigned from his coaching role. This move fueled further speculation about his potential appointment as Chairman of the selection committee.

It is noteworthy that Agarkar had previously applied for the Chairman position in 2020, but his application went unanswered. As of now, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, Sreedharan Sarath, and Shuvasunder Das serve as members of the senior selection committee.

A former captain of Mumbai, Agarkar boasts an impressive cricketing career, having played 26 Test matches and 191 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. Notably, he was also part of the victorious team that clinched India’s first T20 World Cup title in 2007.
