Former Labor Agency Official Faces Corruption ⁢Charges in Taiwan

New ‍Taipei City, Taiwan – Xie yirong, the‍ former branch director of the Northern Base Yihua Golden Horse Branch of Taiwan’s Labor Manpower Advancement Agency, is facing corruption charges following a sweeping investigation that led to the detention of 23 individuals.

On december 10th, the ⁣New Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office ordered raids on 22 locations, including Xie’s residence,⁣ business premises linked to ⁢the case, and the homes of other individuals suspected of involvement. The investigation centers around allegations of embezzlement of public funds and improper procurement practices.

This ⁣case gained public attention after a civil servant in the Northern Branch of the ⁣Labor and Development Administration allegedly committed suicide following dismissal by Xie for what were deemed “major errors.”

Taipei City Councilor Zhong Xiaoping, a member of the Kuomintang (KMT) party, filed a formal complaint with the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office, ‍alleging negligence ⁢leading to ‍death and violations of ‍corruption laws against Xie and former Minister of‍ Labor Xu ‍Mingchun. The case was subsequently transferred ⁢to⁤ the New Taipei Public Prosecutor’s Office for further ⁤investigation.

Prosecutors are focusing on allegations of gift procurement and office decoration irregularities, which are being investigated under Taiwan’s Corruption⁣ Crimes‍ Ordinance.

Xie was transferred to the New Taipei Examination Office ⁤early on December 11th for questioning. Following the interrogation, prosecutors applied for a restraining order against him.
