Former Presidential Office Spokesman Resigns Amidst Affair Allegations and Party Scandal

Former Spokesperson for Taiwan’s Presidential Office Resigns Amidst Accusations of Affair

Colas Yotaka, recognized as the spokesperson for Taiwan’s presidential office, has made the decision to tender his resignation following allegations of having engaged in an extramarital affair with a married bodyguard.

According to reports from the Central Taiwan News Agency on the 28th, Yotaka stepped down after reports emerged regarding his inappropriate relationship with Mr. Li, who had provided him with protection during his mayoral campaign in Hualien during last year’s local elections. President Tsai Ing-wen subsequently approved Yotaka’s resignation.

In a Facebook post, Yotaka’s spokesperson explained, “The allegations made against Yotaka are greatly exaggerated.”

These recent revelations surrounding Yotaka’s scandalous affair come as a blow to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, just ahead of the upcoming presidential election in January. The party has already been dealing with the repercussions of the ongoing #MeToo movement, which has also reached Taiwan. On the 31st of last month, a former party member took to Facebook to expose incidents of sexual harassment within the party. The Democratic Progressive Party finds itself continuously confronted with claims of sexual harassment, with some members even accusing Yotaka himself.

Colas Yotaka (49), spokesman for Taiwan’s presidential office, has resigned after being accused of having an affair with a married bodyguard.

According to the Central Taiwan News Agency on the 28th, spokesman Colas tendered his resignation after reports emerged that he had an inappropriate relationship with Mr Li, who protected him when he was running for mayor of Hualien during the local elections. last year, and President Tsai Ing-wen approved the resignation.

A spokesman for Colas explained on Facebook that day, “The reports (relating to his relative’s allegations) are exaggerated.”

It is said that the scandal of the spokesman Colas brought bad news to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party before the presidential election in January next year. The Democratic Progressive Party is taking a direct hit from the #MeToo scandal (which I also accuse) that is currently hitting Taiwan. On the 31st of last month, a former member of the party revealed the fact of sexual harassment within the party via Facebook, and the Democratic Progressive Party continues to reveal that I am also a victim of sexual harassment.
