Beginning with the 2026/27 season, Disney+ will become the global streaming home of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship across 144 territories, according to a joint announcement from Formula E, Disney+, and ESPN.

The landmark multi-year agreement brings together Disney’s global streaming platform and the all-electric motorsport championship, majority-owned by Liberty Global. Formula E announced the deal alongside its ongoing broadcast commitments, balancing global streaming rights with existing free-to-air and pay-TV rights in respective local markets.

A New Global Streaming Ecosystem for 144 Territories

Subscribers on Disney+ across 144 territories will gain access to comprehensive live coverage of every Formula E race weekend. According to championship organizers, the coverage includes practice sessions, qualifying sessions, and every race. In the United States, events will stream live on Disney+ alongside ESPN+.

Beyond live event broadcasts, the streaming platform will offer dedicated preview and review shows, race highlights, in-depth analysis, exclusive behind-the-scenes programming, and full race replays on demand immediately following each event. Michaella Snoeck, chief media officer at Formula E, noted that the agreement complements valued linear TV broadcast networks to serve core markets locally while expanding the series’ digital footprint globally.

This agreement reflects the global demand for Formula E.

The Arrival of the GEN4 Era in the 2026/27 Season

The launch on Disney+ coincides with the start of Formula E’s revolutionary GEN4 era during the 2026/27 campaign. According to official championship details, the new season introduces the fastest and most technologically advanced electric racing car ever built. GEN4 cars will deliver 600kW of power—equivalent to more than 815 horsepower—and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds, making them around 30 percent faster than a Formula 1 car.

The upcoming calendar features 21 races across 13 cities. The season begins in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 18, and concludes in Tokyo on July 25, 2027. Joe Earley, co-president of Direct-to-Consumer at Disney Entertainment, stated that the collaboration introduces fans to the sport’s next chapter.

Expanding Disney’s Live Sports Portfolio

The addition of Formula E adds another property to Disney+’s expanding slate of live global sports programming. According to the Walt Disney Company, the streamer also holds rights to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in South America, select LALIGA football matches in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the UK, Ireland, and France, NBA games in the Philippines, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League across Europe and Latin America.

Formula E Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dodds emphasized that the multi-year partnership arrives amid strong organizational momentum.
