Found in the City: My Unlikely Streak of Lost and Found Luck in Birmingham

I think you’re in luck.

There are various kinds of luck such as family luck, academic luck, work luck, etc., but one that stands out unusually is lost item luck (luck of finding lost things, which seems to be related not only to things but also to relationships and trust).

I have always lost a lot of things, but most of them are returned to me.

Below is a list of things I’ve lost over the past five years or so, and all of them have been returned.

• lost my wallet at mcdonalds
• Lost your shoulder bag in the parking area
• forget your business bag on the road
• Lost my shoulder bag at USJ
• Lost my eldest son’s stuffed animal twice
• I forgot my wife’s handbag in Spain.
• Forget your phone in a taxi in Indonesia
• Forgetting your international driver’s license at a hotel in Spain
• I forgot my second son’s shoes in a taxi in Spain.

It’s not hard to imagine that lost items can be safely delivered in Japan, but lost items are often returned overseas as well.

Even if I forget something, I almost always get it back, so I think there is a fundamental lack of a sense of urgency to not lose things.

Even though they are usually negative, right after they lose something, Latin people say, “Well, I’ll get it back!” and go looking for what they lost with a surprising positivity. And you’ll find it soon.

I think it’s pretty bad if you lose a lot of things while living overseas, but I just hope that your lost-and-found luck will last you until the end of your assignment.
