This attack follows a recent shooting in Puget-sur-Argens where a man killed his Tunisian neighbor and wounded a Turkish man. The suspect, a French national born in 1971, was apprehended after his partner alerted authorities.
The suspect had allegedly posted racist videos online, calling on people to target individuals of foreign origin. Anti-terrorism prosecutors are handling the case, marking the first time a far-right racist attack is being treated as terrorism as 2019.
In april,a separate incident occurred where a man fatally stabbed a Malian man in a mosque. Regional prosecutors are handling that case.
France has the largest Muslim community in the European Union, and also a significant Jewish population.
The incident occurs amid increasing global tensions. In London, a Turkish-born man was recently found guilty of a public order offence for burning a Koran. sweden has also experienced multiple Koran burnings, including one by Iraqi Christian Salwan Momika, who was killed in January.
