A fire broke out at the Kråkerøy hockey facility in Fredrikstad early Thursday, prompting a large response from emergency services. Police were alerted to the blaze at 12:46 a.m.
Extensive Damage Reported
According to interim fire chief Arve Hermansen, the fire had spread throughout much of the building. “There is now full fire in most of the building inside, we can look at via drone,” Hermansen said. “And there is also great heat development on the roof.”
By 2:30 a.m., Hermansen indicated that the smoke was less hazardous than initially reported.
Emergency Response
At least a dozen emergency vehicles responded to the scene. Firefighters used a lift to combat the flames, and a police helicopter was also deployed. East 110 Central, the local emergency dispatch center, confirmed that an automatic fire alarm triggered the initial notification.
The facility, known as StjerneVærste, presented challenges for firefighters due to its size.
Hermansen stated that there was no immediate risk of the fire spreading to other structures, and no injuries were reported.
Club Impact
A reporter at the scene noted a strong smell of smoke. Several people, including the facility’s caretaker, gathered to observe the situation.
“It’s entirely unreal, it’s not quite over me yet,” said Roger de Linde, the caretaker. He emphasized the importance of the hall to local children and young people, noting that the ice hockey club was largely built by parent volunteers.

“The kids love it,” de Linde said.”Right after school, every day, at two we open for loop hockey. So this is a tragedy for everyone.”
Facility Details
About four years ago, the Stjerne hockey organization began using half of the hall for dryland training. An ice rink was installed in the other half within the past two years.
Øyvind Kvammen, marketing director for the company that owns the building, also arrived at the scene. ”It’s nitrist,” Kvammen said, expressing his sadness.
The fire was visible from many parts of Fredrikstad.

Fire departments from neighboring communities, including a fire truck from Rygge Air Station, are assisting in the firefighting efforts.
Hermansen added that firefighters are working to extinguish the fire from multiple exterior points, as it is too dangerous to enter the building.
