bandung, West Java – Population and Family Development minister Wihaji has underscored the critical importance of ensuring that food distributed under the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program reaches its intended beneficiaries: pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers. This initiative is a cornerstone of the government’s strategy to cultivate healthy and high-quality human resources, aligning with the aspiring Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
Targeted Nutrition for Maternal and Early Childhood Health
Minister Wihaji emphasized during a visit to an MBG kitchen in Bandung that the program’s success hinges on precise distribution. “It is paramount to ensure that free nutritious meals reach pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers who are not enrolled in early childhood education institutions,” he stated. The government’s commitment extends beyond schoolchildren, recognizing the unique nutritional needs of these three vital demographic groups.
the Imperative of Supervision and Equitable Distribution
A key focus for the minister was the necessity of robust supervision to guarantee that the MBG meals are consumed by those they are intended for. Wihaji highlighted potential scenarios where the program’s objectives could be undermined, such as husbands consuming meals designated for pregnant or breastfeeding wives. “The absence of MBG food for these beneficiaries would signify injustice. What about the fathers? Well, it is their responsibility to get their own food,” he asserted, reinforcing the principle of equitable access. Similarly, he stressed that food provided for toddlers should not be diverted to mothers.
“In short, supervision is critically important to ensure the food is consumed by those who truly need it,” Wihaji reiterated. he also called upon local health workers and family planning counselors to play an active role in educating the public about the eligibility criteria for MBG meals, thereby fostering greater awareness and compliance.
Program Reach and Future Growth
Current data indicates that the MBG program has successfully reached 2.6 percent of its target of 9.1 million beneficiaries across the three key groups nationwide. Minister Wihaji expressed confidence that this figure is poised for continued growth, reflecting the government’s dedication to expanding the program’s impact.
“it should be noted that free nutritious meals are not exclusive to children, as the government pays equal attention to pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers,” the minister concluded, underscoring the holistic approach to national health and development.
