Freenow by Lyft announced the launch of a new technology suite aimed at streamlining taxi trips for passengers and drivers across Ireland. The update introduces the Airport Fastpass, a Multistop feature, and the Fleetview Programme, designed to improve wait times, route efficiency, and journey flexibility.

Airport Fastpass Targets Long Wait Times and Rejected Fares

The Airport Fastpass tackles a common inefficiency at airport taxi queues. Many drivers waiting hours in virtual queues reject low-value fares to avoid losing their spot. Under the new system, drivers who take these shorter trips receive priority placement upon returning to the airport. This incentive aims to reduce passenger wait times after flights. Once drivers complete a return trip, they enter the Fastpass queue to receive subsequent airport jobs more quickly.

Multistop Adds Route Flexibility for Multiple Passengers

The Multistop feature allows passengers to add up to four intermediate stops to a single journey directly through the app. Drivers receive the additional stops fully integrated into their navigation systems without disrupting the route’s flow. The feature is available in multiple counties and towns across Ireland, enabling users to pick up friends or family along the way.

Fleetview Programme Mapped for Local Accuracy

Freenow by Lyft is deploying a dedicated ground fleet fitted with windshield devices to map Irish streets and road infrastructure. The Fleetview Programme gathers high-precision geographic data on road objects, lanes, and signs to fill gaps in public mapping information. Danny O’Gorman, General Manager at Freenow by Lyft Ireland, emphasized the operational goals of the new rollout.

Our focus is on creating a travel experience without interruptions, whether through Airport FastPass, Multistop journeys, or our newest initiative, the Fleetview Programme. By mapping Ireland’s road network ourselves, we are enabling drivers to access highly localised data that can improve estimated arrival times, cut down on kilometres driven without passengers, and support a more efficient experience for both drivers and passengers.

All three technological innovations became available immediately within the driver application.
