After the Belém docked at Port Vieux, London 2012 Olympic gold medalist Florent Manaudou disembarked with the Olympic torch.

“I’m very proud to be the first torchbearer,” Manodo told Olympics.com, adding, “But the first thing that comes to my mind is sharing.”

“I want to share this feeling with the 10,000 torch bearers. The people who carry the torch come from all walks of life, from athletes to volunteers.” (Manufacturing)

After Manodou carried the flame, the second runner, the French para-sprinter Nantenin Keita and the rapper Jul, passed the flame before lighting the cauldron of the Olympic Torch Relay.

“We wish you many medals of many colors and much strength for the competition,” said Jool to the cheering crowd.

Marie-José Perec, who holds three Olympic gold medals in track and field, was also present and applauded the event. He told Olympics.com that the celebrations in Marseille epitomized the spirit of the Olympic Games.

“This morning, I was on a small boat with the French sailing team to welcome the Belém to have goosebumps,” he said.

“This morning, I felt exactly the same way. To be honest, that’s what we want to convey to people: the Olympics and those feelings. Look here, we’re all singing and celebrating together. That’s the Olympics.”
