A total of 29 inspectors and 164 police officers participated in the Police Academy graduation parade today.
From Teaching to Policing: A Leap of Faith
Deng Weijie, 26, graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a degree in Chinese language. Instead of pursuing a teaching career, he chose to become a police officer. He believes that as a police officer, he can make a more immediate impact on society and bring a sense of success and satisfaction.
Tang Weijie, another police officer, shared a similar sentiment. He said that although teaching can impart moral values and friendship, students often need to gain experience in life before they can understand it. As a police officer, he can help citizens in time and prevent crimes, bringing a sense of fulfillment.
Overcoming Challenges and Achieving Success
Deng Weijie faced challenges during his training due to a fractured right hand and weak muscle strength. However, with targeted training and the encouragement of his classmates, he was able to overcome his physical limitations and pass the physical fitness test.
Zhou Xiuli, 26, also changed careers to apply for the police force. She has been fascinated with police work since childhood and believes that police officers can provide direct help to society and citizens. After graduating from the Department of Clinical Medicine at Guangzhou Jinan University International College, she applied for the police examination and joined the training class.
A Decade of Service and a New Chapter
Lam Yan-ting, a 31-year-old trainee inspector, has been in the police force for nine and a half years. He has worked in various teams, including the uniformed patrol team and special service team. After applying for the trainee inspector exam five times, he finally entered the Police Academy as a trainee.
Lam Yan-ting shared that the training was arduous, but he was determined to succeed. He believes that the police force is a fair and just institution, and he is proud to serve society as a police officer. He encourages those who are interested to apply for the exam and pursue their ideals.
