From Facebook to First Team: Unlikely Midfielder’s Shocking Arrival at Boca
Santiago Dalmaso: The Midfielder Making Waves at Boca
The midfielder, who made his debut against Independiente del Valle in the Copa Sudamericana, is attracting the attention of the new coach. He joined the club through a Facebook post and has already played in the U-20 Copa Libertadores.
Fernando Gago’s arrival as Boca’s manager brought about several structural changes to the training routine at the Ezeiza training complex. Players must now arrive at 7 a.m. for a mandatory weight check, and players who are overweight will not be allowed to compete. The training camp time has also become longer. But Pintita was also surprised by the level of everyday life of Santiago Dalmaso. He is slowly establishing himself in the first team.
The story of this midfielder’s arrival at the club is quite interesting. His father Marcelo, a former player in the regular Villegas league, broke the news to him through a Facebook post informing him that the club’s trials had been announced. He was signed by a youth team scout in 2018 and was supported throughout his development.
Although he has won several titles in Genaise colors in the youth ranks, Dalmaso has played a particularly important role in the first team, playing a pivotal role in Mariano Herron’s side that reached the final of the U-20 Copa Libertadores. Then, unexpectedly, they lost 2-1 to Flamengo. In fact, he even scored in the semi-final against Ecuador’s Aucas.
Those who have frequently watched him in the third tier claim that he is a midfielder with strong tenacity who helps in defence. He also has good passing ability and individual skills. He formed an interesting partnership with Milton Delgado, another player who debuted this year.
After signing his first professional contract until December 2028, he made his first-team debut out of necessity under manager Diego Martinez. Ahead of the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, Boca late submitted a good-faith list with changes, including four reinforcements for the game against Independiente del Valle: Gary Medel, Thomas Belmonte, Brian Aguirre and Milton Gimenez.
So the midfielder was recalled and came on in the second half of the drawn game, replacing Javez Saralegi in the 86th minute. In doing so, he became the 42nd player to debut in the club’s top league under Juan Roman Riquelme’s administration. Under Gago, he was called up again for the match against Deportivo Riestra, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and could feature again this Sunday against Lanus at La Fortaleza.
